Oculoplasty, or oculoplastic surgery, refers to procedures focused on the eyelids, brows, orbit, tear ducts, and face. Oculoplastic surgery can be both cosmetic and medically necessary, depending on the individual case.

Oculoplasty comprises many surgeries, from correcting sagging eyelids to eye removal. These treatments can restore or reconstruct the eye and its surrounding structures. Blepharoplasty, or eye lift surgery, is one of the most popular oculoplastic surgeries, which eliminates excess skin from the eyelids resulting in a more youthful appearance. Other common oculoplastic surgeries include brow lifts and facelifts.

Oculoplastic surgery is recommended in the following cases:

  • Ptosis: drooping eyelids

  • Entropion: eyelids folding inward toward the eye

  • Ectropion: eyelids folding outward from the eye

  • Thyroid Eye Disease: bulging eyes due to inflammatory tissue

  • Cancer and Other Growths: tumours or lesions on or around the eye

  • Blocked Tear Ducts: often seen in infants but can occur in adults due to illness, trauma, or tumours

  • Injuries: repairing and restoring damaged eye sockets
